Quick Overview
This horse dance stick features the carved figure of a spotted bear riding on it's back - it looks for danger and its powerful spirit protects the horse.
Description
The body of the horse dance stick is painted a light creamy hue. He has a long mane of black horse hair, brass tack for eyes, and his mouth is lined with "spirit sparks". Around his neck he wears a dangle of brass bells, a red trade cloth tie, and turkey feathers suspended from a leather wrap.

The horse also wears a beaded head amulet - it's features are beaded in shades of blue and red with red dyed horse hair on its head, a spot bead for an earring, and an elk tooth at its neck.

The bear emerging from horse's back is painted a rich dark brown with cream colored spots and tiny yellow glass beads for eyes. The bear and the horse are connected - the brown "line of power" running from the horse's mouth to the bear symbolizes this unity.

The horse has a long, flowing tail of black horse hair wrapped in red and blue beadwork. Two imitation golden eagle feathers wrapped in navy trade cloth hang from his back leg.

The horse form is carved from a single piece of wood and painted with acrylics.

The piece is signed by the artist.
