Quick Overview
With beautiful quillwork and beaded details, this Plains Indian style buckskin shirt honors the animal's power by staying true to the natural shape of the hide.
Description
The top portion of the shirt is painted blue using earth pigments. Strips of quillwork in red, yellow, green, blue, and violet designs with a beautiful blue beaded outline accentuate the shoulders and chest of the shirt - two strips run over the shoulders and hang midway down the back and the front; the other two run along the top length of the sleeves.

Red trade cloth shirt bibs hang just below the neckline on the front chest and back of the shirt. They are edged with glass beads, decorated with white and blue beaded rows, and dangles of quill wrapped horse hair. The neck is also edged in red trade cloth and finished with leather stitching, leather lace dangles, and metal bells.

On the back of the shirt, lengths of black horse hair are suspended below the quilled sleeve strips and sides of the chest strips ; to each side of the chest hangs one red dyed horse hair dangle. The front of the shirt has horse hair dangles on just the shoulders and to the sides of the chest strips.

The edge of the sleeves and body of the shirt are finished with leather fringe.

The shirt is made of brain tanned leather. Beadwork is done using glass seed beads in the lane/lazy stitch technique. The sides of the shirt are open, the lower part of the sleeves are secured with leather ties.
