Description
Strips of beadwork - red, green, and greasy yellow geometric designs on a blue background - accentuate the shoulders and chest of the shirt. Two strips run over the shoulders and hang midway down the back and the front; the other two are attached to the top of the sleeves.
Navy trade cloth shirt bibs are placed in center of the front chest and back of the shirt. The edges are finished with imitation sinew stitching. The bibs are decorated with an abalone shell disc and leather dangle. The neck is also edged with navy trade cloth and finished with glass beads.
On the front of the shirt, lengths of horse hair are suspended below the beaded arm strips, from the shoulders, and to either side of the shirt bib using a combination of tin cones and glass beads. The back of the shirt features fringe below the beaded sleeve strips. Ermine hides and leather ties hang from the shoulders on both the front and back (on either side of the beadwork).
The bottom edge of the sleeves, shirt, and shirt bib are finished with leather fringe.
The shirt is made of commercially tanned leather. Beadwork is done using Venetian glass beads in the lane/lazy stitch technique. The sides of the shirt and bottom of the sleeves are open.
