Quick Overview
Adorned with powerful symbols of the bear, this shield reveals the warrior's bear spirit - he has the ability to sneak up on his enemy and be fierce in battle.
Description
Painted bear tracks run through the center of the shield along a sacred path of orange spots. To either side of the tracks hang leather fringe, dangles of black bear claws, glass beads, and feather fluffs. The background of the shield is painted green and yellow.

A bear amulet showing the fierceness of this animal hangs at the top right of the shield. It is made of rawhide and beaded in shades of yellow and green with blue, red, and yellow details.

Red old style trade cloth drops are suspended from each side of the shield. The drops are secured with leather lacing and adorned with brass bells, imitation eagle feathers, glass beads, leather lacing and navy blue trade cloth patches at the top and bottom.

The top of the shield is finished with leather fringe. A dangle of leather fringe, brass bells, glass beads, and a horse hair scalp amulet hangs from the bottom.

This is a 2-cover shield. Underneath the decorated soft leather covering is a rawhide surface painted with a hidden image, known only to the artist and the person who owns this shield.

The shield is painted with acrylics. The beadwork is done using glass beads.

The piece is signed by the artist.
