Quick Overview
Featuring a striking quillwork design, this knife sheath by Chris Ravenshead showcases the exquisite beauty of quilled decoration juxtaposed against the simple beauty of the natural buckskin.
Description
Made of rawhide, this hard-sided sheath is covered with a soft braintanned buckskin. The front is quilled in rich hues of red with designs in blue and yellow; the back reveals soft, supple nature of the leather.

The upper portion of the sheath features squares of blue with yellow accents (often referred to as a "filled up" design); the lower portion is decorated with a Kapemni design in yellow. The Kapemni - the rhythmic triangular shapes - is often used to visually express the belief in the actions of the living are reflected in the afterlife.

A single dangle made of yellow horse hair, tin cones, and a wrapped quillwork strand hangs from the bottom of the case.

The sheath is sewn together with sinew and also features sinew stitching around the lip. The quilled design is done using the plated technique. The spine and lip of the sheath are further accented with turquoise and black glass beads. The back includes a leather belt tie.
