Quick Overview
Amongst the ideas of Indian people about death is the belief that dying is like climbing up a long and difficult slope towards a high pine covered ridge on the Great Plains.
Description
From the top of this ridge we shall see the Spirit World, the place from which we came, and the place to which we shall return. It is said it will be like this world, except that we shall perceive it as even more beautiful as we will live there without fatigue or sorrow or illness.

Here, a woman stands on the ridge - behind her the rocky, difficult slope, before her the gentle slope and green valley.

She carries sage leaves, which are pleasing to the spirits. The crows encourage her to go on, down to the Land of Many Tipis.
