Description
This is the Shoshone tribe and since they were friendlier with the whites, there are a couple of trappers joining in. The characters in the painting are obviously having a feast. Any time Indians sat down to eat just about anything, they considered it a feast. Viewers can speculate on the reason for the feast - they might be celebrating any number of things - but since it's summer, they would prefer to eat outside.
