This Native American artist's ancestry includes Dakota, Lakota and Nakota bands.

His great grandfather, Chief Blue Dog (a medicine man) and his grandmother, Good Medicine Woman, were both spiritual people of the Sisseton Wahpeton Dakota.

His grandmother was instrumental in his artistic career, teaching him to have respect for others and always remember his traditional ways of life and his ancestors.

Gayle is a member of the Crow Creek Dakota tribe.
