Quick Overview
Featuring the powerful image of the Elk, this doll-sized cradleboard speaks of those individuals who dreamed of the elk and were said to have healing powers, as well as the strength of this brave creature's heart.
Description
The cradleboard is a beautiful deep blue. The Elk image on the top of the hood comes to life in rich shades of brown. In hues of red, gold, and white, the large geometric designs at the sides represent the great Lakota Nation.

A small beaded turtle amulet (intended for the umbilical cord) is also added to provide protection for the child.

The cradle is made of elk leather. The richly detailed beadwork is done in the lane/lazy stitch technique using imitation sinew and Italian glass beads. The frame and slats are Poplar wood; the slats are decorated with brass spots.

Additional accents include fringe, Italian Crow beads on the ties, a mobile of brass bells across the hood's opening, and beaded bell dangles at the sides. The carrier is lined with felt and the front is secured with 5 leather ties.
