Description
His buckskin shirt features a chest band of red wool trade cloth and rows of yellow beadwork. Beaded strips run down either side of the shirt front and arms; the sleeve decoration also incorporates hair locks.
His breechcloth is made from the trade cloth salvage edge; his leggings are made of navy wool trade cloth and decorated with strips of yellow and blue beadwork down the side and across the bottom edge of each leg. The leggings are secured with leather laces. He also wears a pair of unadorned buckskin moccasins.
His face is painted with earth pigments in a design inspired by a vision had by the artist's father-in-law. The doll's hair is made of black horse hair and painted red at the part. On each side, the hair is braided with a leather tie. He is adorned with a bone hair pipe and bead choker and an abalone shell disc at the top of each braid.
He holds a shield decorated with birds, feathers, and trade cloth in one hand, and in the other a bow. Across his chest, he wears a fur and red wool trade cloth sash that is attached to a quiver filled with arrows at his back.
The doll's body is made of fabric and stuffed with cotton.
