This controversial account of the killing of two FBI agents in June of 1975 on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota.

Although Matthiessen's version is embraced by some and mocked by others, it makes for a great read and does a good job of putting the reader into the moment at that violent period of American Indian history.
