Quick Overview
Parfleche were rawhide containers used for long term food storage or to protect ceremonial items during transport. Native American artist Lauren Good Day Frank honors the gifts given by the “Four Leggeds” by using deer leather and rawhide in the creation of this piece.
Description
This style of parfleche is unique in that it is designed to be hung from the side of one’s saddle. The main body of the bag is created using deer rawhide. A box and border design has been applied to both sides of the rawhide using acrylic paints.

The top of the bag is smoked brain tan deer leather and is adorned with brass sequins and a draw string for easy access. Smoked brain tan deer hide has also been used in the fringe along the side and bottom of the bag.

Additional accents include satin ribbons, small brass bells, and red horse hair dangles. The inside is lined with a calico fabric.
