Quick Overview
The tradition of decorating Doctor’s bags with porcupine quillwork began in the 1880’s.

At that time, when bags became available, Sioux Indian women decorated the bags with quillwork to give them an “Indian flavor.”
Description
With this tradition in mind, quillwork artist Chris Ravenshead quilled this bag with a historical design.

He began with an antique Doctor’s bag and covered it with brain tanned deer skin. He then utilized the straight quillwork technique and decorated the bag on both sides with the historical diamond design and a four direction symbol in the center.
