JoAnne received her formal art training from Dakota State University, MacAlester College in St. Paul, Minnesota and the Santa Fe Institute of Indian Art.
This Native American artist has evolved into what she refers to as 'Impressionism', as she depicts her Native American heritage by 'Bringing out the old in a modern way.'
In addition to painting, JoAnne is also an accomplished bronze sculptor. In 1992 JoAnne was inducted into the South Dakota Hall of Fame.
JoAnne Bird is an enrolled member of the Dakota Sioux and raised on the Sisseton-Wahpeton Reservation, and remains a South Dakota Resident.
