Quick Overview
Imbued with the spirit of the elk, this pedestal drum features painted images of this animal, a beaded amulet, and feather dangles.
Description
Made of cottonwood, the drum body features a wonderful asymmetrical shape. The sides are painted white and decorated with stylized images of the elk along with geometric designs, an ochre stain around its mid section, and touches of orange.

The top and bottom of the drum are covered with buffalo rawhide; this is stretched across the drum's surface and secured with rawhide lacing. The top is painted with the image of an elk.

Around the drum body hang dangles of deer toes and glass trade beads, feather fluffs and tin cones, a beaded elk amulet, and a single dangle of imitation goshawk feathers.

The drum beater is stained a deep brown and adorned with a band of yellow and red wrapped beadwork.

The drum is painted with commercial paints, earth paints and stain.
