Quick Overview
Featuring the iridescent shine of Abalone shells, dresses such as this example by Michael McLeod once symbolized status and wealth, as these shells could only be obtained through trade.
Description
The yoke is adorned with polished Abalone shell discs. The collar is finished with navy blue tradecloth, a row of beadwork, and leather lacing around the edge. The belt is made of lattigo leather and adorned with Abalone shells and glass beads; it is secured with a leather tie.

The mid section of the skirt is decorated with delicate beadwork and dangles made of fringe, glass pony beads, french brass beads, brass cones, and feather fluffs. The bottom portion of the dress is also decorated with Abalone shell discs and is painted blue (acrylic).

Long leather fringe hangs at lower part and ends of the sleeves, down the sides, and along bottom of the skirt.

The dress is made of elk leather. The sides are sewn with imitation sinew; the bottom of the sleeves are open. A 23 inch slit runs along each side of the skirt.
