Quick Overview
Decorated with the cherished teeth of the elk, this three-hide dress displays the love of a husband for his wife and shows he is a great hunter who provides well for his family.
Description
Using three hides - one folded over and used for the top portion and the other two sewn together at the sides to create a skirt - the dress displays the beautiful shape of the natural hide at the side and lower edges of the sleeves, around the waist, and the bottom edge of the skirt.

The side seams of the skirt are finished with leather fringe and the top of each sleeve with a strip of red trade cloth and white and navy beadwork. The sleeves are open along the bottom edge and the skirt has a 22 inch slit on either side.

The yoke is adorned with three rows of imitation elk teeth and leather fringe. The collar is finished with a red trade cloth neck tab edged with navy trade cloth border and brass spots; hanging above the tab are dangles of red white heart glass beads, brass beads, and tin cones.

The mid section of the dress features the beautiful irregular edge of the hide (used for the yoke). It is further enhanced with dangles made of leather fringe, glass pony beads, french brass beads, and brass cones.

The lower portion of the dress is also decorated with a single row of elk teeth, patches of red trade cloth, and dangles of red white heart glass beads, brass beads, and tin cones suspended from lengths of leather fringe. The bottom edge is decorated with two rectangular tabs of red trade cloth edged in navy and brass spots; each has a four directions symbol made of brass spots in the center and elk teeth and leather fringe at the top corners.

The front and back of the dress are identical.
