Description
In rich shades of brown, the central beaded image shows a mother and child sharing a moment of tenderness. The mother buffalo is both affectionate and protective as she keeps watch for danger; the calf lovingly looks to her for safety.
The geometric design placed below the mother and child is a symbol of the Great Lakota Nation. It is used in this piece to invoke the buffalo spirit and represent the relationship between the buffalo and the people.
The Hills design lining the top of the mask represents the environment of the buffalo.
The beaded mask is outlined with a wide red white heart band and a thin line of black beads. Brass bells hang from the bottom. A single imitation eagle feather and leather dangles of glass pony sized beads and metal beads hang from each horn.
The mask is made of commercially tanned leather. The skull is commercially processed.
The piece is signed by the artist.
