Quick Overview
This magnificent buffalo skull is adorned with a beaded panel with quillwork and painted details to show the sacred path of the spirit buffalo.
Description
A buffalo image peeks out over the skull's central beaded panel, as if a spirit coming to a person during Vision Quest. The imitation eagle feather dangles represent this revered bird as it carries prayers from one side to the other…between them is a beaded trail that shows the tracks of the animal, the sacred path of the buffalo.

The main light blue beaded panel is decorated with the image of a buffalo. It is beaded in a rich, dark green and a dusty pink with white, red, light blue, and yellow accents. Its head is three-dimensional and badger claws hang from each side to represent horns. The center of the buffalo is covered with a white, red, blue, and yellow quilled disc.

To each side of the beaded panel hang quilled dangles of deer toes, tin cones, and painted grouse feathers. From the bottom of the skull hang imitation eagle feather dangles adorned with glass trade beads, quill wraps, leather fringe, and trade cloth fringe.

The surface of the skull is also painted with tribal designs using acrylic paints.

The mask is made of commercially tanned leather. The skull is commercially processed.

The piece is signed by the artist.
