Quick Overview
When explaining the significance of the bear effigy on this buffalo horn cover spoon, artist James Little Wounded smiled and simply said, "The bear is the king of all eaters".
Description
The tip of the spoon features a carved bear head and the underside of the ladle has a carved bear paw; these represent the owner's spirit helper.

The handle is decorated with wrapped quillwork using red, yellow, and blue dyed porcupine quills, along with dangles of quilled leather, horse hair, tin cones, deer dew claws, and glass beads.

The piece is finished with an yellow stain, which the artist explained, is also the color of the bear.
