Quick Overview
To honor a great buffalo hunt, this unique horn cover spoon features the painted face, horned headdress, and colorful accoutrements of a buffalo dancer. This spoon would be used for a communal pot of soup and the retelling of the "Buffalo Hunt."
Description
The tip of the spoon features the head of a man. His facial features are carved in exquisite detail - he wears a red painted mask, a buffalo horn headdress, a conch shell disc, glass beads, and a quilled dangle finished with tin cones and dyed blue and orange horse hair.

The upper portion of the handle has a beaded white and blue band; the lower portion is decorated with a red, blue, yellow, and white quillwork design.

The scoop shows the natural texture of the inside of the horn cover and has a wonderful mottled finished, brought out with a red stain. The back of the ladle has also been stained with a red pigment.

The piece is signed by the artist.
