Description
The front and back of the fully beaded yoke features the image of the buffalo in hues of brown and topaz set against a beautiful blue backdrop. The shoulders include a buffalo track pattern to symbolize the spirit of the great buffalo. The sides of each sleeve are decorated with colorful geometric designs in bright oranges, yellows, and greens to represent the Lakota people.
Leather fringe hangs at lower part and end of the sleeves and along bottom of the skirt. Accented with a single abalone shell disc, individual lengths of fringe hang from the body of the skirt. The belt is made of lattigo leather and aged brass conchos; it is secured with a leather tie.
The dress has a square neckline and is made of aged elk leather; beadwork is done using Czech glass beads in the lane/lazy stitch technique. The sides of the dress and bottom of the sleeves are sewn closed with imitation sinew. A 13 inch slit runs along each side of the skirt.
The beaded yoke is lined with a linen material to protect the underside of the beadwork.
